Bobcat Netmen Fight Past Idaho State 5-2 to Complete Weekend Sweep

Veteran Joaquin Espinoza, rookie Daan Van Dijk lead MSU to weekend wins
BOZEMAN, Montana – Less than 14 hours after grinding 4-3 win over Idaho State that stretched to 10 pm on Saturday, the Bobcats took an entirely different route in Sunday afternoon's 5-2 non-conference victory over the Bengals.
Instead of capturing a hard-fought doubles point and then scratching out three singles matches, like MSU did Saturday, the Bobcats dropped the doubles point then won five of the six singles matches. As was the case on Saturday, though, nothing was easy.
Brad Buckland, whose three-set thriller clinched the Bobcats' first victory of the weekend, evened the score at 1-1 on Sunday by winning at No. 4 singles, but MSU's Nejc Sitar fell in a third-set tie-break at No. 1 singles to Patrick Trhac as Idaho State recaptured the lead.
From that point on, it was all Bobcats. Freshman Daan Van Dijk, who arrived in Bozeman just a month ago, moved up a ladder spot and won at No. 3 singles in three sets, and for the second straight day Joaquin Espinoza turned in a brilliant performance to win in three sets, the last two in tie-breakers. Finally, Bozeman High product Marcos Zelver swept past Robert Steinhauser at No. 5 singles to clinch Montana State's victory. Jacob Huppin finished things off in his Bobcat debut with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 win at No. 6 singles.
The day's start wasn't nearly as bright for the Bobcats. Idaho State won 6-2 at No. 1 doubles, and followed that with a 6-4 win at No. 2 to grab the doubles point.
Montana State raised its record to 2-0 on the season, while Idaho State fell to 0-5. The Bobcats have next week off, then host Whitworth on February 20.
