Freshman Delaney Shearan had been on head coach Daniel Jones’ radar for a while.
Every Friday since the beginning of May, we've spotlighted a member of the Bobcat volleyball program. After seventeen weeks, and finishing up with freshman Delaney Shearan from Phoenix, Arizona, you've had a chance to meet the entire 2020-21 Montana State volleyball team. Stay tuned for our next volleyball feature slated to start next Friday.
Freshman Delaney Shearan had been on head coach Daniel Jones' radar for a while. Shearan had initially contacted Jones as a freshman, and Jones liked what he saw on film. Over the course of the following three seasons, Jones witnessed Shearan's growth as a setter and knew she would be a good fit for the Bobcat program. Shearan checks all the boxes as a Bobcat and Jones looks forward to her development in the Blue and Gold.
CATCHING UP WITH DELANEY:
1). Can you give us an update on your current status?
Currently, I have been taking the time to get settled into college life here at MSU. I have been enjoying the beautiful summer weather and activities that Bozeman has to offer. With the second week of school underway, I have been navigating through this hybrid form of education and getting settled into all of my classes. All of the craziness happening in the world right now is teaching me to take things day by day and to take on one challenge at a time.
2). Can you tell us about yourself, family, hometown and what you like to do outside of volleyball?
I am from the bustling big city that is Phoenix, Arizona, so Bozeman definitely feels like a small town to me. I come from a very close-knit family of four; my younger sister, Gracie, is most definitely my best friend. I am so very blessed to have wonderful, loving parents who are the best role models and my biggest supporters. I would not be where I am today without the immense love and support from my Mom, Dad, and sister. Apart from volleyball, I love to spend time with my family and friends. I will take any opportunity to be outdoors; I especially love hiking and running. When I am inside, and not doing schoolwork, I enjoy baking.
3). How has the transition into collegiate volleyball been going for you this summer?
Excluding all of the adversities that COVID has presented, the transition into collegiate volleyball has been going quite smoothly. I am very blessed to have been welcomed into this program by an amazing team and coaching staff who have helped simplify this big transition. The older girls immediately took the freshmen under their wings, teaching us what it means to play Bobcat volleyball. I continue to learn something new every day and I am continually grateful for the growth and learning opportunities that have come with this transition.
4). What are your goals and expectations for the team this year?
As we hopefully look forward to having a season in the spring, the team is chasing a Big Sky championship. With this goal in mind, we have been pushing each other to be our best both on and off the court. Every time that we step in the gym, we have been getting after practice with the attitude of a championship-winning team. Personally, my goal is to continually better my teammates and to become an essential asset to winning a conference championship, in whatever role that may look like.
HEAD COACH DANIEL JONES ON DELANEY SHEARAN:
"It feels like Delaney has been a Bobcat forever. She sent us film during her freshman year in high school and she immediately stood out as a mature, developed setter, something we are always looking to add to our gym. She committed not long after. It has been fun to see her growth over recent years and we are looking for her to continue that upward trajectory of development. She has a solid foundation to build from and is going to be a great asset to us as a program for years to come."
