For the past two seasons, Emma West has been sidelined with a knee injury, but that hasn’t stopped her passion for the game and the need to see her teammates succeed on the court.
Every Friday from now until the beginning of the volleyball season will we spotlight a member of the Bobcat volleyball program. Now up: Emma West.
If there is one thing Head Coach Daniel Jones is ardent about when recruiting an athlete, it would be passion. Passion for the game fuels what happens in the practice gym for the Bobcats. It creates desire and competition. For the past two seasons, Emma West has been sidelined with a knee injury, but that hasn't stopped her passion for the game and the need to see her teammates succeed on the court. Now, ready to make her return to the Blue and Gold, West is thirsty to contribute on the court and put her emotions into action.
CATCHING UP WITH EMMA:
1). Can you give us an update on your current status?
I live with three of my teammates so it's hard to get bored around our house. Being in Bozeman during this time of the year is the best, so we're spending most of our time outside- whether it be going to Bozeman Beach, hiking or floating. Many things are unknown during this crazy time, so I am just taking it day-by-day. Our team is fortunate enough to be able to work-out and have open gyms, so we are taking every advantage of that while staying healthy and safe at the same time. Being in the gym with everyone again has been such a blessing.
2). How do you think the spring volleyball season was progressing before everything shut down?
During our spring season, the progression was amazing to see on and off the court. Dedication is the best word that describes my team. We all have one goal to win the Big Sky championship and we are making the right strides to get it. I have been battling an ACL injury since my freshman year at MSU and I have never felt better from this past spring and heading into summer.
3). What are your goals heading into the fall and what are the expectations for the team?
My goals heading into my junior season are the same as they have been my freshman year. To win the first Big Sky Championship for our volleyball program. Although there are many unknowns still, our team is ready to face any challenges and is prepared and working hard with each battle that comes our way.
HEAD COACH DANIEL JONES ON EMMA WEST:
"The greatest thing about Emma, and I tell her this often, is that she makes us all better by her sheer presence. Her love and passion for the team, the game and for being a Bobcat help us all recognize how fortunate we are to do what we do. After two long years of injuries, Emma is finally getting ready to compete for playing time. I am extremely excited about the work she has done to get herself to this point, and I am thrilled for her to be able to realize her ambition of contributing as a Bobcat. She is coming back fresh, enthusiastic, and passionate with a huge desire to play. She remains a great athlete who hits a very heavy ball, just as she did when we first recruited her. I've got big expectations for her both on and off the court."
