Bobcats Cruise to First Men's Tennis Win of 2020

MSU sweeps Division III Whitman at Boise
The Montana State men's tennis team got on the winning track Saturday, picking up a 7-0 victory over Whitman College in Boise, Idaho.
Junior Joaquin Espinoza led the Bobcats, teaming with Manuel Monteiro, helped the Cats to a quick start with a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles. Montana State won the doubles point when Chase Stoner and Marcos Zelver earned a 6-1 win. Espinoza then cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. When Marcos Zelver (6-2, 7-5 at No. 3) and Nejc Sitar (6-3, 6-4 at No. 1) won in quick succession, the Bobcats clinched the victory. "Joaquin played lights out as he didn't drop a game," said Bobcat coach Trey Morris.
"It was a great performance from start to end," Morris said. "All of the guys really bounced back from yesterday's tough loss to get in the winner's column." Christian Damgaard-Qvist earned a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles, Chase Stoner grabbed a 6-4, 6-4 win at the fifth spot, and Monteiro fought for a 6-2, 5-7, 10-3 win at the bottom of the lineup to give Montana State the sweep.
Montana State raised its record to 1-1 on the season, and return to action on February 7 in Bozeman's Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center at 8 am. "We are excited and looking forward to the home opener against Seattle," Morris said.
