Bobcat Men's Tennis Team Drops Season Opener at Regional Power Boise State

MSU shows well in doubles competition
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State started strong but couldn't maintain in a 7-0 season-opening men's tennis loss at Boise State on Friday.
"Our team came out firing and had a good start to doubles," MSU coach Trey Morris said, "but couldn't quite hold on as momentum changed. This is a good Boise State team and shows us what we need to continue to improve on."
The Cats lost three close doubles matches, including a 6-4 defeat by Nejc Sitar and Christian Damgaard-Qvist at the hands of 50th-ranked Blake Bayldon and Simon Arca Costa at No. 1. Joaquin Espinoza and Manuel Monteiro dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 2 and Moarcos Zelver and Chase Stoner fell 7-5 at No. 3 to hand Boise State the doubles point.
Three Bobcat players made their MSU varsity debuts Friday, including Sitar, who fell 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Chase Stoner (a 6-2, 6-1 loss at No. 5) and Manuel Monteiro (6-3, 6-3 loss at No. 6) also made their first spring appearances in Blue and Gold. Returners Espinoza (6-1, 6-2 at No. 2), Zelver (6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 3) and Damgaard-Qvist (6-1, 6-0 loss at No. 4) also dropped their singles decision.
Montana State's opening weekend continues Saturday at 9 am when the Bobcats face Whitman at Boise.
