Three-Peat: Montana State’s Rizzo Earns Third Player of the Week Honor

Rizzo had a phenomenal weekend for the Bobcats averaging 6.22 digs per contest, slightly over her current average of 5.96 digs per set, which ranks third in the nation.
FARMINGTON, Utah (October 28, 2019) – The Big Sky Conference has named Montana State's Allyssa Rizzo and Northern Arizona's Abby Akin their #BigSkyVB players of the week. Akin was named the offensive player of the week while Rizzo was named the defensive player of the week.
Rizzo had a phenomenal weekend for the Bobcats averaging 6.22 digs per contest, slightly over her current average of 5.96 digs per set, which ranks third in the nation.
Against Portland State, she posted a whopping 30 digs to lead all players - an average of 7.50 saves per game. Rizzo also led all players with 26 digs as the Bobcats defeated Sacramento State 3-2 on Saturday night. The win was the first for Montana State over the Hornets since 2010.
In addition to her defensive prowess, Rizzo added two aces and 13 assists on the weekend.
This is the third time this season that Rizzo has been named the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week.
Akin was dominant in the middle in NAU's victories over Southern Utah and Northern Colorado this past week. She totaled 22 kills at an average of 3.14 per set with only two errors for a .526 hitting percentage. The senior middle blocker also recorded four aces for an average of 0.57 per set.
Akin hit over .500 in both matches as she began the week with a 13-kill performance on the road in Cedar City, where she hit .545 in NAU's four-set win over Southern Utah. She came up big in the clinching fourth set, recording six kills on six swings including on match point.
Akin followed up with nine kills on .500 hitting to help NAU hand Northern Colorado its first conference loss of the season. The Lumberjacks swept the Bears for the first time since 2007 and snapped Northern Colorado's 8-0 start to conference play. She also recorded three aces and clinched the sweep with her second kill on match point of the week.
