For the second time this season Montana State libero Allyssa Rizzo has been named Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Rizzo had an outstanding weekend for the Bobcats racking-up 61 digs, averaging an impressive 6.78 digs per set.
In Montana State's win at Northern Arizona, which broke the Lumberjack's 13-match-home court winning streak, Rizzo posted 30 digs (6.0 digs per set). She followed that performance with a 31-dig effort at Southern Utah, averaging a whopping 7.75 digs per set.
"Allyssa had a huge weekend and really came up big in our win at Northern Arizona," said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. "She is certainly finding her groove. Then, to go out and get 31 digs in a four-set match at Southern Utah was just ridiculous. We know we have a pretty special athlete on our hands. She's a true student-athlete and an incredible kid."
The back-to-back 30-dig performances marked the third and fourth time this season she has gone over the 30-dig plateau in a match. In her nine sets played, she was in double-figures saves in four contests, including a weekend best 14 digs in the fourth set against Northern Arizona. In addition, she recorded eight assists and an ace against Northern Arizona & Southern Utah.
Montana State will host Weber State, Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. in Shroyer Gym.
