The Montana State volleyball team had its three-match win streak snapped as Southern Utah handed the Bobcats a 25-19, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23 setback, Saturday afternoon.
Southern Utah (11-7, 4-2) out-hit Montana State (8-7, 4-2) .200 to .109 and held a 62-39 advantage in kills.
"We lost the serve-pass game and that gave them a lot of opportunity to be in system and get their middles going," said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. "It's a great opportunity for us to learn and get better at this point in the season. I'm proud of the team, they dug in and played tough, we just got out-played at critical moments."
Montana State was led by Evi Wilson and Hannah Scott, who both notched double-doubles. Wilson finished with 11 kills and 12 digs, while Scott chipped in ten kills and ten digs.
Defensively, Allyssa Rizzo paced MSU with a match-high 31 digs, averaging an impressive 7.8 digs per set. Emma Pence guided the Bobcats at the net with seven blocks, while Scott added five.
MSU held a 73-66 advantage in digs and out-blocked SUU 11-6.
The Thunderbirds were led by Stacey Hone and Katie Montgomery with 16 kills, apiece.
MSU will host Weber State on Thursday.
