The Bobcats will compete against Idaho State, Montana and Utah State in a dual-format scoring meet on Friday
The indoor track and field schedule inside Brick Breeden Fieldhouse continues on Friday as Montana State hosts the first Dual Meet Invitational of the 2018-19 slate which begins at 2:30 p.m. with throwing events. The Bobcats will compete against Idaho State, Montana and Utah State in a dual-format scoring meet.
"We're looking forward to hosting some teams we haven't seen yet this year," said Lyle Weese, Montana State Director of Track and Field. "It will be great to have Idaho State and Utah State in here. It's always good to compete against the Grizzlies as well. We're looking forward to having three Division I full teams and squads in here that have individuals in all of the events."
Montana State completed a sweep on both the men's and women's sides a year ago in the Dual Meet Invitational. The Bobcats' closest competitor in the dual scoring matchup during the 2018 meet was Utah State, which MSU defeated 78-59 in the men's competition and 74-67 in the women's clash. MSU's women's team also finished a sweep of its opposition in 2017 while the Bobcat men topped Idaho State and Utah State, but fell to Montana, 91-58.
The Bobcats go into the meet with a combined 47 marks and times inside the top 10 on the Big Sky performance list. MSU has a representative at the top of nine events, with Cameron Carroll (800, mile) and Wyatt Thompson-Siporen (pole vault, heptathlon) in the top spot of two events each.
Several Montana State student-athletes have already made their mark on the Bobcat all-time top 10 list this season.
Thompson-Siporen moved into the men's top five in both the pole vault and heptathlon in the program rankings. Lewis, who is on MSU's all-time charts indoors and outdoors, jumped to fourth in the men's long jump during the MSU Open last week. Truanne Roginske improved to a tie for fifth in the women's 60-meter dash during the first meet of the season, the Bobcat Preview, on Dec. 1.
Montana State continues to build toward the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships which will be held in Worthington Arena from Feb. 21-23.
"At this meet, we're really looking forward to competing as individuals as part of the team," Weese said. "We're so focused on the conference championships and getting individuals to improve, that's really our focus. We're worried about the team score at the Big Sky Conference Championships and on improvement throughout the season individually."
All Montana State home meet information can be found on the Bobcat track and field pages on msubobcats.com. Live results for Bobcat home meets can be kept up with on msubobcats.com/TrackResults.
