Truanne Roginske completed three all-time top 10 showings as MSU wrapped up its final home meet of January
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State had several standouts that completed program all-time top 10 times or marks to cap the first MSU Dual Meet Invitational of the indoor track and field season on Friday, Jan. 18, inside of Worthington Arena.
The Bobcats made eight adjustments to the program's record book during the meet. In the dual meet scoring portion of the meet, Utah State swept the four-team field of Idaho State, Montana and Montana State in both the men's and women's competitions. The MSU men fell to all three opponents, but the Bobcat women topped Montana by a 76-72 score.
"I was really excited about the number of solid individual performances that we had," said Lyle Weese, Montana State Director of Track and Field. "We got some individuals, with the marks that they earned tonight, that can make an impact at the conference level. So that's really exciting.
"Obviously, we didn't compete all of our athletes today. But we're really looking forward to the Powder River Dual next weekend to take on a solid team and see how the dual scores turn out there."
Truanne Roginske put together three separate efforts Friday that altered the MSU all-time top 10.
Roginske finished first in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump competitions. Her time of 7.60 seconds in the 60 hurdles, converted to 7.62 seconds due to altitude and track size, moved her from fifth to third in program history. She joined the program's top 10 in the long jump with her leap of 18 feet, 7.25 inches (5.67m) and also moved from seventh to fourth all-time in the triple jump with a mark of 38-01.50 (11.62m).
"She had an incredible day," Weese said of Roginske. "To move into third all-time in the 60 and then she came back and had a really good long jump and triple jump. All of those marks are competitive for the Big Sky Conference meet and she can make an impact for us. It's rare to have someone in one day do that in three events."
Individual success continued throughout the Bobcat ranks.
Freshmen Henry Adams and Delaney Smith both found their way into the MSU record books in the 60 hurdles. Adams took first in the men's race by crossing the line in 8.24 seconds, good for a tie for ninth in program history. Smith also finished first in the women's race, with her time of 8.78 seconds putting her eighth all-time in the event.
"Delaney was the Big Sky conference leader coming into the meet and she went out there and completed a pretty significant mark," Weese said. "Henry Adams had a breakthrough run. He didn't compete all of last year, so for him to get back into competing at a high level in the hurdles is great."
Samuel Bloom and Cameron Carroll finished in the top two spots in the men's 800. Bloom completed a converted time of 1:50.35 which leapfrogged him over Carroll to sixth in the MSU record book. Freshman Lucy Corbett cleared her best height as a Bobcat in the high jump. She completed a mark of 5-07 (1.70m) to move into a tie for eighth all-time in program history with four others. Alex Lewis continued his rise on the long jump all-time top 10 list, moving to second in the event among Bobcats by taking first with a leap of 24-05.75 (7.46m).
Courtney Stromme and Mitch Horning each won their respective 200 races. Kendra Larson, Isabella Calabrese, Alex Hellenberg, Wyatt Thompson-Siporen and Alec Nehring all achieved runner-up finishes in an event. Maddie Brockel, Lexi Kyro and Ty Mogan each added third-place individual showings.
The Bobcat women had multiple individuals earn lifetime or season-best marks which included Morgan Evans (60 hurdles), Annalise Lont (400), Madi Arneson (weight throw) and Jordan Fink (shot put). Adams and Caleb Neth achieved their best pole vault clearances of the season on the men's side.
