The Bobcats send several athletes to the West Coast to compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitaitional
The Montana State track and field teams return to California for three meets over a three-day stretch beginning on Thursday, April 19. The Bobcats will have student-athletes competing in a mix of events between the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate, Mt. SAC Relays and Beach Invitational.
"There are teams from all over the country we will participate against in all three competitions," Montana State head coach Dale Kennedy said. "We just have been progressing up until now and need to continue to do that. We can't level off this weekend. This is really our last opportunity to see some truly outstanding competition prior to the Big Sky meet. We need to take advantage of this opportunity."
MSU makes its final trip outside the Treasure State this weekend with its trek to California before the conference championships. The Bobcats are scheduled to battle Montana in the annual Cat-Griz Dual on April 28, then return to Missoula for the Tom Gage Classic on May 4. The Big Sky Conference Championships follow in Moscow, Idaho, and run from May 8-11.
The Bobcats have five student-athletes scheduled to compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday, eight athletes participating in the Mt. SAC Relays on Thursday and Friday, while a total of 36 Bobcats will appear in the Beach Invitational over a two-day span starting on Friday. A majority of MSU's athletes in the Beach Invite will make their debuts at the meet on Saturday.
The Coast Intercollegiate and Beach Invite take place at Long Beach State University's Jack Rose Track. The prestigious Mt. SAC Relays are hosted at Murdock Stadium at El Camino College. Live results will be provided by each meet, with a paid-subscription live stream available for the Beach Invite on Flo Track.
Montana State heads back to the West Coast with more athletes after a strong weekend of action at both the Triton Invitational and Montana Open. The Bobcats rose six spots in the latest USTFCCCA rankings, with the men moving to sixth and the women up to 11th on the Mountain Region list.
The Bobcats have 28 men listed in the top 20 on the Big Sky performance list and the women narrowly trail that with 24 among the top 20 in the conference rankings in at least one event.
"I think the Triton Invitational was really a springboard into this weekend," Kennedy said. "A lot of the kids that were in California last weekend are going back with some confidence that they can perform at this level. We have our distance runners and throwers in a couple of different events. They're going to have an opportunity to compete in some great fields of competitors in each meet they compete at."
