“We’re still a very young team,” Weindel said. “However, we have kids that gained a lot of experience last fall and played very well during the spring. We’re looking forward to an exciting season and taking the next step up the Big Sky Conference ladder.”
The 2014 edition of Montana State volleyball will begin its preseason drills on Saturday morning in Shroyer Gym beginning at 8 a.m. Third-year head coach Kyle Weindel welcomes back eight letterwinners, including four starters.
Last season, with a squad that featured one senior, two sophomores and three freshmen in its starting rotation, the Bobcats posted a 6-25 mark. However, MSU was playing its best ball at the end of the season led by the solid play of middle blocker Natalee Godfrey and outside hitter Kennadie Clute.
Godfrey paced MSU with a .275 attack mark and 89 blocks, while Clute recorded a Big Sky Conference best 513 kills, en route to being named the league's top freshmen player.

Senior Kasey Schlatter returns for her final season and will take over the Bobcat defense as starting libero. MSU will look to find a new setter with the departure of last year's starter Anna Sykora. Transfer Katie Harrington and freshman Megan Robison will vie for the opening.
Weindel also welcomes back Eli Svisco, a two-year starter on the right-side, as well as starting outside hitter Loni Kreun, who notched 339 kills and 274 digs last season. Rounding out the returners will be senior Zoe Gogan and sophomores Alex Rader and Cassie Krueger.
MSU will open its 2014 campaign at the University of Utah Invitational against New Mexico State on Aug. 29.
