Second-year Montana State head volleyball coach Kyle Weindel has announced his 2013-14 recruiting class, which includes two players signing National Letters-of-Intent and two invited walk-ons.
Signing National Letters-of-Intent are Jolie Meade, a 6-1 middle blocker from Rocklin, Calif., and Megan Robinson, a 5-10 setter from Los Altos, Calif. Joining the Bobcat volleyball program as invited walk-ons are Kasey Altman, a 5-4 libero/defensive specialist, and Kiana Black, a 6-1 middle blocker from Wenatchee, Wash.
"This class brings a great deal of volleyball knowledge, intensity and passion about the game, which I love," Weindel said. "They are total team players that will continue to help this young team evolve and grow as people and student-athletes."
Meade (below), a three-year letterwinner at Rocklin High School, guided the Thunder to a 28-14 overall record as a junior. As a sophomore, she helped guide RHS to the Sierra Foothill League title. As an All-SFL performer, Meade played four years of junior Olympic ball with
"Jolie comes from a nationally recognized volleyball club and brings a high level of matches under her belt," Weindel said. "She is a dynamic and powerful middle who will be able to score points from kills and blocks. Jolie has played in a number of big matches and will bring that experience to an already young MSU line-up."
Robinson (below, right), who was a three-year starting setter at Mountain View High School, served as team captain for the Spartans this season. As a setter and right-side hitter, she led MVHS in kills, blocks, assists, digs and aces. A four-year letterwinner, Robinson helped her team to three Central Coast Section tournaments, including a 2010 semifinal finish. In addition, she has an extensive club background playing with the Vision, City Beach an
"Megan is a very experienced and intelligent setter from a nationally recognized club," Weindel sai
Altman, who is a three-year letterwinner at Scripps Ranch High School, helped guide the Falcons to the semifinals of California Division I as a junior. For her efforts, she was an All-CIF Second-Team performer. Altman also has a strong club background with the Epic Volleyball program in southern California. She led her club teams to numerous regional appearances and top 10 finishes in southern California.
"With the graduation of Nicole Baker we needed to add a defensive specialist to the program," Weindel said. "Kasey is an exceptional passer and defend
Black, who was a Columbia Basin Big 9 First-Team pick this season, led Wenatchee High School in kills, points, aces and blocks. This fall, she recorded 220 kills, 46.5 blocks and 42 aces. Black also set the all-time Panther's mark for solo blocks and kills in a match. As a junior, the scholar-athlete was a second-team all-conference selection.
"We had the opportunity to add another middle blocker to the program and Kiana will add much needed depth," Weindel said. "As a very successful high school player, she can score behind the setter similar to (current Bobcat) Natalee Godfrey."
Weindel indicated the Bobcats could sign another student-athlete during the spring signing period.
