Kyle Weindel, who was named the ninth head coach in Montana State volleyball history on Feb. 7, was officially introduced to the Bobcat faithful on Monday afternoon.
The mascot is the same. And, the fight song is uncannily familiar.
The only difference is the colors.
And, well, the faces, surroundings, terminology, etc.
Kyle Weindel, who was named the ninth head coach in Montana State volleyball history on Feb. 7 and previously served as an assistant at Ohio University (Bobcats), was officially introduced to the Bobcat faithful on Monday afternoon.
“I'm super excited to be here,” Weindel said. “I couldn't sleep last night and it felt like I was back in college before a big match. It was a long drive out (from Ohio) and I was thinking 'will this drive ever end.'
“Then I had my first snowstorm and it was the first time I could put my new pickup truck into four wheel drive,” Weindel continued. “So, it's nice to get that all right off the bat.”
Weindel also got his first day off to an early start as he hit the Shroyer Gym floor for the first time on Monday morning during a team workout.
And, he liked what he saw.
“I just kind of sat back and watched and did a little evaluating,” Weindel said. “We worked on all facets of the game at a quick pace. We worked on some terminology and moved towards getting everyone on the same page. I like the potential of this group.”
The group that returns for Weindel consists of eight letterwinners, including four starters. Weindel will also welcome four newcomers to the program in the fall.
