MSU Men's Tennis Team Opens Fall Season at Bedford Cup in the Mountains

Cats travel to USAFA for strong regional tournament
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Sept. 17, 2026) – Montana State opens its men's tennis fall season this weekend as the Bobcats travel to the U.S. Air Force Academy for the Bedford Cup in the Mountains tournament on Friday.

The Bobcats face a strong regional field in Colorado, including Air Force, Denver, New Mexico, New Mexico State, and Big Sky rivals Idaho, Montana and Weber State. Play begins at 9 am Friday and runs through early Sunday afternoon on the USAFA campus.

Third-year head coach Mateus Ceolin leads an experienced Bobcat team built around six returners. Five of those compete this weekend. Senior Andre Stewart anchors the lineup as the returning No. 1 singles player, while junior Eddie Biss also brings a track record of success to the lineup.

A group of second-year players also bring experience to the lineup. Junior Oumar Diallo and sophomores Max Calaquian and Ethan Masselis, while David Ismanescu continues to work his way back from a spring injury. The weekend offers a first look at newcomers Reuben de Klerk, a sophomore who transferred from Pacific over the summer, and freshman Gareth Igesund.

While the past may be prologue, Ceolin looks forward to a fresh beginning this fall. "Every year is a new start, and we're working to peak in April. This is that first building block for that."

This weekend's trip offers Ceolin and his charges the opportunity to create a template for the season to come. "I'm looking to establish how we're going to work, how we're going to compete, how we're going to do everything," he said. "Traveling, matches, understanding that everything matters. Everything that we do in the fall during practice, it all matters and it all leads to have a good season in the spring."

The Bedford Cup opens a five-tournament fall campaign that also features the Bobcat Invitational (Oct. 23-25). MSU also plays at Boise State (Sept. 25-27), BYU (Oct. 6-10) and Gonzaga (Nov. 6-8).
