Montana State set to open Big Sky play on Friday
BOZEMAN, Mont. --- After two weeks away from competition, the Montana State women's tennis team is set to open Big Sky play at Idaho on Friday before continuing on to Washington State on Sunday.
Friday's match against the Vandals will begin at 11 a.m. MT at the P1FCU Kibbie Dome while Sunday's matchup with the Cougars is set for 3 p.m. MT inside Hollingbery Fieldhouse. Friday's match will air live on ESPN+, and Sunday's match can be live streamed on the Washington State athletics website here.
"We are excited to get back on the road and compete again," Montana State head coach Hailey Barrett said. "It's been great to be home in Bozeman, and we've put in some good work over the last few weeks. We have two big opportunities this weekend, including our first conference opponent. This group is ready to go."
Montana State heads into the conference opener with a 3-3 record, last dropping a pair of 6-1 matches to Boise State (Jan. 30) and Santa Clara (Jan. 31) at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho. Terezie Stverakova earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court four to earn the Bobcats' lone point against Boise State, and Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili earned a statement 6-1 doubles win at No. 2 doubles earlier in the match to highlight the Bobcats' first match in Boise. Against Santa Clara, Angel Bean earned a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles to highlight the Bobcats' performance against the Broncos.
Montana State is set to face the 3-6 Vandals in the Big Sky opener for both teams. Idaho last split a pair of matches at the Vandal Invitational in Moscow, falling, 5-2, to New Mexico on Feb. 13 before bouncing back for a 6-1 victory over South Dakota on Feb. 14. The Bobcats and Vandals last squared off on April 4, 2025, in Bozeman, with Idaho taking a narrow 4-3 victory in that meeting.
The Bobcats and Cougars are set to meet for the first time in five years, with Washington State winning the last matchup between the two teams, 7-0, on Feb. 14, 2021. The Bobcats trail in the all-time series, 20-10, but the two teams head into the weekend with an identical 3-3 record this season. Washington State is set to play Portland State on Friday and Montana on Sunday morning before facing the Cats later that day.
This weekend's road trip marks the final stretch of eight-straight matches away from Bozeman to open dual-match play. The Bobcats will compete at home for the first time this season on Sunday, March 1, when they host Sacramento State at 10 a.m. at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
