Bobcats Drop Narrow Men's Tennis Decision at North Dakota

Yassin Elaroussy captures another singles win
(Jan. 18, 2026) – North Dakota's Darrsh Suresh Kumar won a 6-2, 7-5 match at No. 2 singles to clinch the Fighting Hawks' 4-3 men's tennis win over Montana State in Grand Forks, North Dakota on Sunday.
Kumar's win squelched a spirited Bobcats comeback attempt after the team fell behind 2-0 and 3-1. Montana State rallied behind a second straight strong effort from the lower ladder positions. The three Bobcat wins came at the third, fifth and sixth ladder spots.
North Dakota started strong by sweeping the doubles point. UND's Justin Ilic opened singles play by topping Camille Chantron at No. 4, before Yassin Elaroussy earned Montana State's first point with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win at the third ladder spot. Leo Galliano's 6-4, 6-1 win over Bobcat Andre Stewart at No. 1 pushed the Fighting Hawks within a point of clinching the win.
Freshman Ethan Masselis gave the Bobcats life at the sixth spot in the lineup, scratching out a 6-7 (7-3), 6-2, 6-2 win. Fellow freshman David Ismanescu followed with a 6-1, 7-6 (10-8) win at No. 5 to tie the match and set up the Diallo-Kumar contest as a winner-take-all. Elaroussy, Masselis and Ismanescu each captured their second singles wins in two tries this season.
The Cats fall to 1-1 after the season-opening weekend, and play at Air Force and Denver next weekend.
