Montana State's top doubles tandem Jojo Bach and Meg McCarty spotted Idaho State's Stefanya Shalakhova and Asem Shoybek the first three games, before putting the hammer down with six consecutive wins giving the duo its 12th victory of the season, leading the Bobcats to a 6-1 decision over the Bengals, Sunday afternoon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
"Idaho State always competes well and they're fighters," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "I thought we responded well after Friday's loss to Idaho. We knew what we had to do today, and I'm really proud with how we competed and battled."
Montana Sate's (9-9, 3-3) No. 2 doubles pairing Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins clinched the doubles point for MSU with a 6-2 win over Idaho State's (9-11, 2-5) Sydney Morris and Millie Day.
MSU went up 2-0 early in singles action after Morris retired due to injury at the No. 4 spot. ISU captured its only point of the match at No. 3 singles, before the Bobcats answered with McCarty's 6-2, 6-3 victory over Shalakhova at No. 2, and Garcia-Reboredo's match-clinching 6-3, 7-6(1) win at No. 1 over Shoybek.
Hawkins and Kavya Khirwar closed out MSU's scoring with straight set victories at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
"We talked about playing to win doubles," Woodburn said. "When the big moments came, we went after them. Everyone came to do their job, whatever that looked like, and we battled hard and won the big points."
