Montana State battles a Grizzly team looking for the second seed in the Big Sky Tournament
BOZEMAN, Montana – The Montana State men's tennis team closes its 2025 season Saturday when the Bobcats travel west to face Montana in Missoula at 1:30 pm.
The Bobcats (4-18 overall, 2-5 Big Sky) own wins in two of their last four matches, and for most of the last two months have played competitive tennis. "We're focused on trying to get better every day," said first year coach Mateus Ceolin. "The guys are working hard and we're competing every time out."
In the Grizzlies, MSU faces a team currently tied for second in the Big Sky and jockeying for positioning in the conference tournament. UM and Idaho State are each 5-2 in league play, but the Griz capture the second seed with a win and an ISU loss to Portland State. The Bengals' win over UM tilts the tie-breaker toward Pocatello.
The uptick in Montana State's team fortunes lately is fueled by improved individual play. Freshmen Camille Chantron and Yassin Elaroussy have each won three of their last four singles matches, sophomore Andre Stewart has a two-match win streak, and Dima Bezborodov has anchored the Bobcat lineup at No. 1 singles throughout the season.
