NEXT UP: Montana State plays its final three home matches of the regular season beginning Friday, Nov. 7 when it hosts rival Montana at 7 p.m. in Worthington Arena. Following its match against the Grizzlies, the Bobcats host Eastern Washington (Nov. 13) and Idaho (Nov. 15) to close out play on the home hardwood.
CAT-GRIZ: Montana State has won five straight from its rival, including a 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 17-25, 15-10 decision over the Grizzlies on Oct. 11 in Missoula. Last fall, the Bobcats swept the Griz 3-0 in both contests. MSU defeated UM (3-0) on Nov. 22, 2023, in the opening round of the Big Sky Tournament. The Cats downed the Griz (3-1) in Bozeman on Oct. 27, 2023. Montana's last win in the series was Sept. 29, 2023, in Dahlberg Arena. UM's last win in Bozeman was a 3-1 decision on Sept. 30, 2022.
MAIN LINE TROPHY: The Main Line Trophy is up for grabs on Saturday night as well as state bragging rights. The Main Line Trophy is a symbol of longevity, resilience, and strength. It is a whimsical throwback to the early mining boom and the railroad that brought only the hardiest citizenry to the Treasure State. It was a time when you could hear the railway bells resonating from Hellgate to Gateway. Throughout history, railroads have connected regions and states, but they have also connected time and eras. It is no different with the annual Cat-Griz volleyball rivalry. Since the inception of the Main Line Trophy on Feb. 14, 2021, the bell has resided in Bozeman on seven of eleven occasions.
THE MIDDLE: Despite dropping a pair of Big Sky Conference road matches at Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona last weekend, Montana State's middle blocking duo of Camryn Greenwald and Joelie Spelts played phenomenally over the course of eight sets. Greenwald, a 6-2 senior from Woodbury, Minn., averaged a team-best 3.38 kills per set, while registering a team-high .469 attack mark. Against Northern Colorado on Thursday, Greenwald recorded 13 kills and hit .571. She followed that effort with 14 kills, a .393 attack mark and three blocks in MSU's 3-2 loss to the Lumberjacks. Spelts, a 6-3 junior from Gillette, Wyo., finished the weekend averaging 2.25 kills per set with a .359 attack mark. Spelts posted nine kills in both matches and chipped in a team-high eight blocks.
MOVIN' ON UP: Lauren Lindseth moved into second on MSU's all-time career digs chart against Northern Arizona on Oct. 2 in Shroyer Gym. Last weekend against Weber State and Idaho State, she totaled 39 digs, averaging 5.57 per contest. Lindseth's career total stands at 1,843 digs. The native of Great Falls moved into ninth on MSU's all-time service ace chart with 122, last weekend.
