Montana State (11-12, 6-6) was led by senior middle blocker Camryn Greenwald with 13 kills, a .355 attack mark and five blocks.
Montana outhit Montana State .290 to .227, including a .412 to .098 advantage in set four, en route to a 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-14 win on Saturday night in front of 4,617 fans in Worthington Arena.
The loss snapped a five-match win streak over the Grizzlies.
"We didn't play good enough for long enough to deserve to win tonight," said MSU head coach Matt Houk. "I thought we came out in set one and really played the way we had practiced all week, but then we got out of rhythm and just never got back on the right track."
Montana State (11-12, 6-6) was led by senior middle blocker Camryn Greenwald with 13 kills, a .355 attack mark and five blocks. MSU's other middle, Joelie Spelts, produced 12 kills, a .435 attack mark and four blocks. Montana State's pin hitters combined for 26 kills but hit just .051 as a unit.
"I thought Cam (Greenwald) did a nice job start to finish, but we just didn't give her enough support," Houk said. "I'll be a tough weekend to just sit with that but come Monday we're going to have to turn the page and get ready for our next opponents."
Defensively, the Bobcats were led by Lauren Lindseth and Karli Heidemann with 16 and 12 digs, respectively.
Montana (15-8, 7-5) was paced by Delaney Russell with 17 kills.
Montana State hosts Eastern Washington on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., in Shroyer Gym.
