“It was fun and great to see Jojo in the line-up,” Woodburn said. “It was her first singles match in a few years. She will be a threat for us this season.”
Playing singles matches first instead of the traditional doubles contests due to weather concerns, Santa Clara took four of six matches to post a 4-2 win over Montana State on Saturday afternoon.
"It was another learning opportunity for our team," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "We started with singles due to rain forecasted, which was a change. We came out ready to compete, but so did Santa Clara."
The Broncos opened singles action with wins at Nos. 3 and 6, before MSU transfer Jojo Bach won a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 decision at No. 2 over Tian Yu Dong. It was Bach's first singles action of the season. She has teamed with Meg McCarty as MSU's top doubles tandem.

Santa Clara went up 3-1 with a win at No. 4, before MSU's No. 1 standout Marta Garcia-Reboredo kept the Bobcats alive with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Daniella Dimitrova. The Broncos captured the match at No. 5 singles as MSU's Andrea Cuquerella dropped a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 contest to Anna Rahman.
"Marta played as a veteran and took care of business," Woodburn said. "The matches we lost, we played with good attitudes and concentration, but we have to find ways to win when the momentum changes. Every match we are learning on who we want to be on the court."
MSU opens its home season Friday, Jan. 31 when it hosts Utah State at 10 a.m. in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
