Cats Host Utah State in Home Opener
1/30/2025 7:10:00 PM | Women's Tennis
“Our dynamic doubles with Bozeman standout Meg McCarty and Jojo leading the way, followed by Marta and Hudson should be fun and full of energy,” Woodburn said.
For third-year head coach Suzie Woodburn, there's no place like home. Last season, the Montana State women's tennis team went 7-1 in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center. This year, Woodburn and company look to duplicate the achievement beginning Friday morning when it hosts Utah State at 10 a.m. in its home opener.
"We are so excited for our home opener and weekend full of tennis," Woodburn said- the Bobcats also face South Dakota on Sunday at 10 a.m. "There is nothing better than competing in the BATC with our amazing fans and community.
"I think the crowd will enjoy seeing tennis from our veterans and also our newcomers."
Guiding the Bobcats is senior Marta Garcia-Reboredo. The product of Gran Canaria, Spain has opened the 2025 campaign with a 2-1 mark at No. 1 singles.
According to Woodburn, the strength of the team resides in doubles play. MSU's No. 1 tandem of newcomer Jojo Bach and Bozeman native Meg McCarty is off to a 2-1 start, while the No. 2 pairing of Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins is also 2-1. Last season, Garcia-Reboredo and Hawkins notched a 7-1 Big Sky Conference ledger at the top spot.
"Our dynamic doubles with Bozeman standout Meg McCarty and Jojo leading the way, followed by Marta and Hudson should be fun and full of energy," Woodburn said.
Behind Garcia-Reboredo in singles action will be McCarty, newcomer Nia Gelashvili, Angle Bean, who was sidelined opening weekend, Hawkins, and senior Andrea Cuquerella.
"We excited to have Angel back and Nia playing for the first time as a Bobcat," Woodburn said. "We're happy to be home."
