“After the Bedford Cup we’ve worked extremely hard over the past two weeks to improve on specific skills that will allow us to play and compete better as individuals,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn.
Coming off a strong showing at the Bedford Cup at the U.S. Air Force Academy two weeks ago, the Montana State women's tennis team looks to continue its fall momentum at the seventh Barb Chandler Classic hosted by Boise State at the Appleton Tennis Center, Sept. 27-29. Matches are slated to start at 9 a.m., each day.
Participating along with Montana State and Boise State is Big Sky rival Idaho State in a mini-dual competition. Each school divides its team into pairs, with each duo facing pairs from other schools. The teams first play a doubles match, followed by two singles matches. The duo that takes two out of three matches advances to the next round.
"After the Bedford Cup we've worked extremely hard over the past two weeks to improve on specific skills that will allow us to play and compete better as individuals," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "I really like the format of the Barb Chandler because it has dual match energy."
Barb Chandler, a three-time U.S. Open quarterfinalist and one of the top-ranked female tennis players in the U.S. during the 1940s and 50s, is known as 'Idaho's First Lady of Tennis.' After her professional career, she devoted herself to fostering a tennis community in Boise. In 2013, Chandler was inducted into the United States Tennis Association's Intermountain Regional Hall of Fame, honoring her impact on the sport.
All three days of the tournament will be streamed here with live stats.
