In a program first, Montana State's doubles team of Meg McCarty and Jojo Bach captured the championship of the Blue Draw (top flight) with an 8-6 win over Denver's Louise Wikander and Andrea Beltran at the sixth Bedford Cup hosted by the Falcons over the weekend.

"We're super proud of Meg and Jojo," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "To win the championship in the top flight is a great accomplishment."

Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins, who combined as MSU's top duo last spring, lost its first doubles match to Wikander and Beltran, before making a run in the back draw, advancing to the consolation title where it dropped a 6-1 decision to a team from Davidson.

"We battled all weekend and really made a lot of progress," Woodburn said. "We are a bit banged-up, but we competed for every point, battled, and made the most of every opportunity."

McCarty, a sophomore from Bozeman, also had a solid weekend in singles play. After dropping her opening match to Beltran 6-2, 2-6, 7-6(4) in Flight Alpha, she rattled off two wins to make the consolation championship match but retired for preventive measures.

Sophomore Angel Bean had an impressive showing in Flight Charley. Bean opened with a 6-4, 7-5 decision over AFA's Shivaani Selvan, before defeating Davidson's Ines Roti 6-4, 6-4 in quarterfinal action. Colorado State's Logan Voeks ended Bean's semifinal showing with a 6-2, 7-5 victory.

The Bobcats will be at the Barb Chandler Invite, Sept. 28, in Boise, Idaho.
