MSU Men's Tennis Team Faces Big Sky Opener at Portland State on Saturday

BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State breaks the seal on Big Sky Conference men's tennis this weekend when the Bobcats visit Portland State in the first conference match of 2024. First serve is 11 am MT on Saturday in Beaverton, Oregon.
The Cats face a team unbeaten on its home courts. PSU owns home wins over Seattle (4-3), Pacific (7-0) and George Fox (7-0), while losing road contests at Pac 12 foes Washington and Oregon, and at Portland. The Vikings have shown strength at the lower ladder positions, with 4-2 records at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Luka Jonvanovic enters weekend play with a 4-0 record.
MSU also plays at Portland on Sunday. The Pilots stand 2-1 and face a rigorous weekend schedule. The Pilots visit Washington on Friday before hosting Eastern Washington on Saturday and the Bobcats on Sunday. Sunday's match begins at 11 am MT on the UP campus. Nikola Keremedchiev carries a 2-0 dual record into weekend play, and recorded wins over Seattle and Portland State in its most recent outings. The team's loss came to Purdue.
The Bobcats are in the midst of an 11-match road stretch. The team is 4-4 on the season, with the four home matches resulting in wins followed by road losses at BYU, Utah State, Creigton, and Omaha. Max Relic owns a 3-1 record, while Dario Ciobotaru stands 5-3 and Kanika Jayathilake 5-2. The team hasn't been at full strength yet in 2024.
After this weekend's matches the Cats return to league play on March 2 with a trip to Eastern Washington.
