Bobcat Men's Tennis Team Adds Talented Freshman Arriving in January

MSU lands Australian player
BOZEMAN, Montana – Montana State bolstered its 2023-24 men's tennis roster this week by signing Kanika Jayathilake from Australia, Bobcats coach Rob Bareford announced.
Ranked among the top 10 Australian players among those born in 2004 from 2015-21, when such ratings were terminated, Jayathilake holds a UTR of 11.26. A native of Sri Lanka, the Brisbane product was among the top 150 players in Australia in 2021.
"Kanika is very passionate about the game and improving his skills," Bareford said. "He works tremendously hard on the court and in the classroom. He will be a great addition."
Jayathilake said that Bareford's vision for the Bobcat program weighed heavily in his decision. "The biggest factor was that I could see clear goals for the team, and an importance on a healthy relationship between players and the coaches," he said. "Also, seeing all of the facilities, campus and the surrounding landscape definitely secured me, knowing that this would be a community I'd enjoy living in long-term."
