MSU looks to build on record-breaking tournament performance last week in Utah with stacked field at Tacoma Country and Golf Club beginning Monday morning
BOZEMAN, Montana – Fresh off one of the most impressive tournaments in program history, the Montana State women's golf team heads back on the road to compete at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, hosted by Seattle University at Tacoma Country and Golf Club in Lakewood, Washington.
The 54-hole tournament begins on Monday morning and continues through Tuesday, with shotgun starts beginning at 8 a.m. PT both days.
Live scoring will be available on Birdiefire. Complete tournament information can be found here.
A talented 22-team field will feature squads from Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Eastern Washington, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Hawaii, Houston Christian, Idaho, Nevada, North Dakota, Portland State, Santa Clara, Sacred Heart, Seattle U, South Dakota, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Weber State and Wyoming.
It marks the second straight season that the Bobcats will participate in the competitive tournament after placing 17th at last year's event that was held at the same par-72, 6,078-yard Tacoma Country and Golf Club course as the one they will see this week.
"This is a great golf course with lots of trees, big greens, and very nice fariways," head coach Brittany Basye said. "This week it'll be about hitting fairways and dropping putts. It's a great field this week, so we need to be ready to compete and stay focused. If we play our games and every player takes care of their games individually, we will score well. We need everyone to bring it and play hard."
Basye and Montana State will roll out a lineup of Scarlet Weidig, Maddie Montoya, Lauren Greeny, Eva Heinz, and Hannah Boraas, with Belle Brezovski competing individually.
Weidig is coming off the fourth tournament win of her career, the second-most tournament wins by a Bobcat in school history. The native of Belen Heredia, Costa Rica, completed a dominant run at the Big Sky '54 for IX' tournament in Saratoga Springs, Utah, last week, shooting a school-record 207 (67-69-71) to finish 9-under par and secure one of the biggest wins of her career on the way to Big Sky Golfer of the Week honors.
Boraas makes her first career appearance in the starting lineup after competing individually for the Bobcats last weekend at the Big Sky '54 for IX.' The freshman from Alexandria, Minn., closed out her first collegiate tournament with rounds of 74 and 75.
MSU rewrote the record books last week at the Big Sky '54 for IX' at TalonsCove Golf Club, setting program-best marks for low 18-hole round (276, -12), low 36-hole score (571, -5), and low 54-hole tournament score (869, +5). The Bobcats finished third, behind tournament champion Sacramento State and runner-up Northern Arizona.
