Women’s Tennis Heads to Barb Chandler Classic

The Montana State women’s tennis team travels to Boise, Idaho this weekend for the fifth annual Barb Chandler Classic, hosted by the Broncos at the Appleton Tennis Center, Sept. 23-25.
The Montana State women's tennis team travels to Boise, Idaho this weekend for the fifth annual Barb Chandler Classic, hosted by the Broncos at the Appleton Tennis Center, Sept. 23-25.
The classic takes the form of a mini-duals tournament. Each school splits its team into pairs who will compete against another pair. Each matchup will consist of a doubles match followed by two singles matches. The pair that wins two of the three matches advances to the next round. The top flight (Blue) and middle flight (Orange) will each consist of eight pairs, while a third flight (White) will consist of six.
First-year Bobcat head coach Suzie Woodburn announced her parings this week and include Team A – Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Mirte Van Baelen; Team B – Jazmin Lerman and Felicia Jayasaputra; and Team C – JJ Chen and Maria Villarejo.
"We are so excited to be headed to our second fall event in Boise," Woodburn said. "The team is ready and eager to compete. We began our 20-hour weeks, so we have had the opportunity to be on court more and prepare for the weekend.
"The team has been working hard at individuals, team practices, and strength and conditioning," Woodburn added. "The focus has been on disciplined, but aggressive tennis. In doubles we have had the opportunity to work on a more strategic style of play and shifting/communicating with our partner."
Also competing at the Barb Chandler Classic is Idaho, Idaho State, Montana, Utah and Weber State.
