Bobcats Top Portland State During Weekend Trip to Oregon

MSU moves to 2-0 in Big Sky play with the win over PSU
Montana State won one of its three matches on its weekend trip to Oregon, but it was the one that helps the Bobcat men's tennis team the most.
In between losses at the University of Portland (6-1 on Friday) and at Oregon (4-0 on Sunday), the Cats picked up an important Big Sky Conference win by beating Portland State 5-2 on Saturday. The Bobcats took the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and No. 3 (No. 2 was unfinished, but the Cats led 5-1 in that contest), then rolled up four singles victories.
Matej Panik claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, then Jamieson Nathan's 6-3, 6-5 win at No. 3 pushed MSU into a 3-0 lead in the dual. Daan Van Dijk dropped a three-set match at No. 1, but Nejc Sitar's 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 sealed the win for the Bobcats. Jamieson Nathan won 6-3, 6-5 at No. 3, while Joaquin Espinoza's 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 ended the day.
The Cats fell at Portland 6-1 on Friday. Buckland's 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles was the only singles victory, while Daan Van Dijk and Nejc Sitar combined for a 6-4 triumph at No. 2 doubles. On Sunday, the No. 1 doubles win by Matej Panik and Jamieson Nathan was the team's only victory.
Montana State jumps into the home stretch of its schedule beginning next weekend, when the Cats meet Idaho State in a crucial conference showdown. First serve is at 12 noon in Pocatello. That begins a stretch of six matches, all league tilts, to close the regular season.
