Matej Panik Leads Bobcat Men's Tennis Team at ITA Mountain Regionals

MSU wins three singles matches and one in doubles

Led in singles and doubles by Matej Panik, the Montana State men's tennis team overcame a slow start to post a productive weekend at the ITA Fall Mountain Regional Championships at the University of New Mexico last weekend.

Panik sandwiched a straight-set win against Justin Waldman of Air Force with three-set wins over Montana's Moritz Stoeger and Idaho State's Patrik Trhac to advance to the semifinals of the ITA West Region Main Draw, where he lost to Utah State. Panik and Jamieson Nathan, MSU's nationally-ranked doubles team, also won a match in that competition before falling in the second round.

"We had a rough start to our tourney on the first day but we bounced back in a big way on the second," said Bobcat coach Rob Bareford. "We have one more tournament for the fall at the University of Denver. This tournament will simulate a spring dual match and we are looking forward to seeing what we can do."

Three other Bobcats won at least one singles match. Jamieson Nathan and Nejc Sitar each won a consolation bracket match, while Max Relic won a pair of matches in the back draw.

Montana State finishes the fall season at the Denver Hidden Duals in Colorado on October 28-30.
