BOZEMAN, Mont. – The Montana State women's golf team is set for the 2021 Big Sky Conference Women's Golf Championship that takes place from April 19-21 at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla, Oregon.
The tournament field of 11 Big Sky programs will compete in the 54-hole tournament with a course layout of 6,154 yards. Each day of golf will feature an 18-hole round that starts at 9 a.m. MDT. The Bobcats are paired to play with golfers from Sacramento State and Weber State to begin the action on Monday.
"We can't focus on what the other teams are doing because the other Big Sky teams have been playing great this year," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "This spring was all about getting some people some experience and finding out what they can shoot being in some tournaments that they hadn't been in before. That was a huge step for us. We need to finish on a high note. We need to come away with a feeling that we played a conference tournament to the best of our abilities."
The Bobcats receive a boost heading into the conference tournament as the MSU lineup welcomes Kelly Hooper back into the picture. Hooper returned to the team this season as a fifth-year senior after the cancellation of the 2019-20 season last spring. The Spokane, Wash., native is a two-time All-Big Sky Third Team selection and is the Bobcat golf program's career scoring average leader.
Prior to the start of the spring, Hooper incurred a knee injury and has been unable to play in any of MSU's previous four events. She's now set to cap her college career at the Big Sky Championship.
"Kelly worked really hard with her physical therapy to get herself back into playing mode," Basye said. "It's going to be her last opportunity to compete in a college tournament. It'll be great to see her back on the course. I'm just proud of how hard she worked to get back to be able to play this week."
Hooper joins a Bobcat lineup this week that will consist of recent All-Big Sky Third Team honoree Kameryn Basye, Hannah Rosanova, Annika Danenhauer and Sofia Rodriguez Todd. The five Montana State golfers hope to play their best as the 2021 golf season comes to a close.
"One of the big things for us is that having Kelly back in the lineup should help our team score," Brittany Basye said. "We'll have to have Kameryn play the way she's been playing. For Hannah and Annika, they've put together some 70s and had good rounds this year, so we'll need more of that. We need Sofia to have her highlight of the season.
"We'll need to put four scores together and expect our best team score of the season to contend."
