Montana State sophomore Kira Thomsen has been named the #BigSkyVB Offensive Player of the Week.
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State sophomore Kira Thomsen has been named the #BigSkyVB Offensive Player of the Week. The Parker, Colo., product was instrumental in the Bobcats' sweep of Idaho on Sunday and Monday night in Moscow, Idaho.
Thomsen averaged 3.50 kills and 4.25 points per set, while recording a .253 (28-9-75) attack mark as Montana State defeated the Vandals 3-0 on Sunday and 3-2 on Monday. In its first meeting with Idaho, the 5-10 outside hitter posted a team-best 11 kills, while adding nine digs. On Sunday, Thomsen led all players with 17 kills, while adding a .261 attack mark and five aces. She also contributed eight digs and two blocks in the victory.
"I'm really happy for Kira," said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. "Getting this recognition is reflective not only of her performances this past weekend but equally of all the work she puts into her craft.
"We also know that these kinds of individual accolades come hand in hand with team success," Jones added. "The best thing about Kira is she's so focused on the teams' success, that an award like this is a by-product of that selfless drive."
Thomsen currently ranks sixth in the Big Sky Conference in kills per set (3.33) and points per set (3.90). She also ranks ninth in the league averaging .39 service aces per contest.
Montana State is 10-2 on the season, the best Big Sky Conference start in program history. The Bobcats are on a current nine-match winning streak, the program's best stretch since the 2001 squad opened its season with 12 consecutive wins.
This is the first-ever Big Sky honor for Thomsen and the third weekly recognition of a Bobcat this season.
MSU will host Southern Utah, Sunday, and Monday, in Shroyer Gym.
