“To use a boxing analogy, they punched us in the mouth early and we were woozy for the rest of the match,” said MSU head coach Daniel Jones.
ODGEN, Utah – Weber State never trailed as it outhit Montana State .370 to .170, en route to a 25-11, 25-18, 25-20 victory in the season finale for both teams on Sunday afternoon in Swenson Gym.
"To use a boxing analogy, they punched us in the mouth early and we were woozy for the rest of the match," said MSU head coach Daniel Jones. "Weber State is a championship program and you have to bring your best game if you want to beat them. We didn't respond very well from Saturday's loss. But our kids have flipped the switch and we're looking forward to getting back in the gym and preparing for the Big Sky Conference tournament."
Weber State (15-1, 15-1) held a 42-33 advantage in kills and kept Montana State (10-4, 10-4) off-balance with a strong service game. The Wildcats had a 10-2 lead in aces.
Montana State was led by Kira Thomsen, who recorded 15 kills and 12 digs for her seventh double-double of the season. The product of Parker, Colo., also notched a .344 attack mark. Hannah Scott also finished in double-digits with 11 kills.
WSU senior Rylin Adams led the Wildcats with 14 kills and a .333 attack mark.
The Bobcats currently sit in third place, awaiting the outcome of two matches between Northern Colorado and Idaho. If the Vandals defeat UNC twice (Sunday/Monday), MSU will get the No. 2 seed in the Big Sky Conference tournament, March 31 – April 2 in Greeley, Colorado.
