The fifth event of the fall for the Montana State women's golf team will be the last one before an extended break into the spring for the Bobcats. MSU hopes to end its fall with a strong showing at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic which begins on Monday in Fort Collins at the Ptarmigan Country Club.
Fifteen teams are included in the field which includes host Colorado State and fellow Big Sky Conference members Idaho and Northern Colorado. MSU will try to take advantage of some of its final competition outdoors before retreating inside for the next couple of winter months.
"We're headed back to Ptarmigan after not being there for a couple years and we're looking forward to it," said Montana State head coach Brittany Basye. "It's a great golf course and should be in great shape.
"The snow put a huge stop to our outdoor practice plans this past week so we had to hit inside for a couple days. We'll try to take advantage of a little warmer weather in Colorado. We need to compete and finish the fall off in solid fashion. The field is very good and everyone needs to bring their A-games all three rounds."
Representing Montana State during the 54-hole tournament will be Kameryn Basye, Bailey Anderson, Jordan Briggs, Lucia Prieto Romano and Annika Danenhauer. The trio of Basye, Anderson and Briggs were MSU's top finishers at the NMSU Aggie Invitational, while Prieto Romano and Danenhauer were the top finishers for MSU's contingent at the Griz Invitational on Oct 6.
The Bobcat lineup will be playing a course layout set up at 6,468 yards. The first 36 holes take place on Monday followed by a final round on Tuesday. Each day features a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
"Ptarmigan is a new course for all five players," Brittany Basye said. "I think it will be a good setup for us if we play smart golf and putt well. It is a long course and has a few layup holes off the tee box. It will be important that we have a good practice round and focus not only what we will hit off the tee, but get some chipping in around the greens to see if they will be checking. We also need to roll some good putts and see the ball go in the hole."
