FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The Montana State golf team carded its lowest round of the season to open tournament play, but dropped in the team standings during second round action as the Bobcats' first day at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic came to a close at Ptarmigan Country Club Monday.
MSU shot a 298 as a team in the opening 18 holes to top their previous season-best score by four strokes. The 'Cats were led by freshmen Bailey Anderson and Jordan Briggs who each fired career-low totals. Anderson was third in the individual standings after the first round as she shot a 2-under-par 70. Briggs was among the top 20 by registering a 1-over 73 thanks to five birdies to begin the day.
Joining MSU scoring lineup in the opening were Kameryn Basye (77) and Annika Danenhauer (78). Lucia Prieto Romano also recorded an 80 in the first round. The first-round 298 by MSU had the 'Cats in seventh overall and it was the squad's top round as a squad since 2019.
However, the second round proved more difficult for the team as MSU shot a 317 during the final 18 holes on Monday. Basye led the way with a 2-over 74, which included an eagle on the second hole, a 510-yard par five. Anderson shot a 79, Briggs followed with an 81, while Danenhauer and Prieto Romano each recorded an 83.
Only six of 15 teams finished second round play due to darkness. The Bobcats were one of the squads to finish and are currently in a tie for 11th at 615 strokes.
Anderson is tied for 28th at 5-over 149 through 36 holes. Basye is tied for 38th with a 7-over 151. Briggs (154), Danenhauer (161) and Prieto Romano (163) round out the Bobcat contingent.
