Neth, Thompson-Siporen Among Leaders in Heptathlon at Big Sky Meet

Three Bobcats are in the midst of competition in the heptathlon heading into day two in Pocatello
POCATELLO, Idaho – Montana State seniors Caleb Neth and Wyatt Thompson-Siporen are among the individual leaders in the men's heptathlon following the opening day of the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Thursday, Feb. 27, inside of Idaho State's Holt Arena.
Thompson-Siporen is in second and Neth sits in fourth place in the heptathlon. Thompson-Siporen has 2,826 points and is less than 100 points behind individual leader Grant Shurtliff of Eastern Washington who has 2,901 points through four events. Neth currently has 2,734 points and is less than 20 points behind Idaho State's Chase Gardom for third place.
Thompson-Siporen finished first in the long jump with a leap of 22-11.25 (6.99m). He also took second in the shot put with his throw of 40-03.25 (12.27m).
Neth recorded personal bests in both the 60-meter dash and shot put. He completed a time of 7.18 seconds in the 60 to take fourth overall, while his shot put of 36-08.50 (11.19) was sixth among heptathlon athletes. His best individual finish so far in the heptathlon was a third-place showing in the long jump with his best mark of 22-00.75 (6.72m).
Hunter Nicholson is also in position to score points for the Bobcats currently as he sits in seventh overall with 2,696 points. He tied for third in the high jump by clearing 6-02.50 (1.90m). He also claimed a lifetime best in the shot put by throwing 37-00.50 (11.29) to take fifth in the event.
The heptathlon continues with the final three events starting at 10 a.m. on Friday inside Holt Arena. Individual events at the Big Sky Championships begin at 1:30 p.m.
