Chen Leads Bobcat Women’s Tennis Squad in Oklahoma

The Montana State women’s tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Oral Roberts on Friday night to open its 2020 dual season. On Saturday, the Bobcats opened play at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Tulsa and fell to Wyoming 6-1.
TULSA, Okla. – The Montana State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Oral Roberts on Friday night to open its 2020 dual season. On Saturday, the Bobcats opened play at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Tulsa and fell to Wyoming 6-1.
Montana State captured the opening doubles point against Oral Roberts as its Nos. 1 and 2 tandems posted victories. MSU's No. 2 duo of Caitlin Ward and Mirte Van Baelen clinched the point with a 6-4 win over Aliksandra Lebedeva and Reagan Miley.
The Golden Eagles went up 2-1 with victories at Nos. 1 and 3 singles. Bobcat freshman Mirte Van Baelen tied the match at 2-2 at No. 4 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Miley. ORU answered with wins at Nos. 2 and 5 singles to clinch the match. MSU's JJ Chen closed out the contest with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 win over Andrea Vasilijevic.
Against Wyoming, the Cowgirls took the opening doubles point. MSU lone win in doubles action came at No. 3 where Chen and Daphne Haverkamp combined for a 6-3 decision over Ana Fernandez and Ana Royo.
Wyoming won five of six singles to close out the match. MSU's only point came at No. 5 singles as Chen registered a straight set 6-4, 6-2 win over Royo.
For the two matches, Chen, a transfer from Wyoming and a product of Adelaide, Australia went 2-0 in singles action and 1-0 in doubles.
MSU will conclude play at the Hurricane Invitational on Sunday against Tulsa and Louisiana Tech.
