Bobcats earned first Big Sky outdoor title since 2003, qualified five to NCAA Outdoor Championships
FARMINGTON, Utah --- The Montana State women's track & field team was honored as the Big Sky Commissioner's Team of the Month for May, the conference office announced on Wednesday.
The honor comes after a historic month for the Bobcats, who earned the Big Sky women's outdoor title, advanced 11 to the NCAA West Regionals, and qualified five for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Additionally, Dale Kennedy Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Lyle Weese was named Big Sky Women's Outdoor Coach of the Year.
The Bobcats tallied 181 points at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships in Gresham, Ore., on May 13-16, to secure a dominant 53-point victory for their first Big Sky women's outdoor title since 2003. The Cats tallied eight individual titles and 14 all-conference performances across the four-day meet, while Tilde Bjerager swept all three women's individual awards at the meet as the Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Most Valuable Athlete, and Most Outstanding Performer. Bjerager contributed 25.5 points for the Bobcats across the 400-meter hurdles, high jump, 100m hurdles, and 4x400m relay, while Sydney Brewster added 24 across the shot put, discus, and hammer. Weese was named Big Sky Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year following his team's title in a unanimous vote by the league's coaches.
The Bobcats qualified five for the NCAA Outdoor Championships across three women's events at the NCAA West Regionals in Fayetteville, Ark., on May 27-30. Bjerager shattered her own school and conference record in the 400m hurdles, Brewster added a season-best mark in the shot put, and the 4x400m team of Bjerager, Peyton Garrison, Giulia Gandolfi, and Caroline Hawkes clocked a school-record time in the final event of the meet to earn their places in Eugene.
The five Bobcat qualifiers on the women's side will join Rob McManus (3,000m steeplechase) at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., on June 10-13 to wrap up the 2026 outdoor season.
