The Montana golf team competes on a familiar course when the Bobcats appear in the Ninth Annual Rose City Collegiate on Monday, Oct. 1. The Bobcats will be playing 36 holes on Monday and a final round of 18 holes Tuesday at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore.
"We have one newcomer in the lineup, but everybody else has played the course," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We should have good memories of it. A couple of them went low last year, so I think they're excited to get back to the course. The weather looks okay and the course should be in good condition. I'm hoping we can feed off of what we did last year."
Montana State finished its appearance at the tournament a year ago tied for seventh out of 14 teams in the standings, but registered a few highlights during the event.
The four-person lineup of Clare Dittemore, Delaney Elliott, Kelly Hooper and Lilly Navarre combined to shoot a 289 second round. That mark tied the lowest 18-hole team score in program history. Dittemore led the way with a 71, while individual Coral Schulz also fired a 71, serving as both golfers' season-best scores.
Elliott eventually led the Bobcats after completing competition with her second lowest 54-hole score of her career with a 7-over-par 223. The team notched its fourth lowest 54-hole tournament score of 898 in program history.
The Bobcats are scheduled to send five on the trip to Aurora for the Rose City Collegiate. MSU's lineup will consist of Schulz, Hooper, Elliott, Dittemore and Hailey Oster.
Schulz is currently atop the team's season statistics with a 76.60 scoring average. Hooper is second in the lineup with an average of 77.20, while Dittemore and Elliott each average a round of 78 strokes per 18 holes. Oster rounds out the group with an 80.40 scoring average through the first two tournaments of her opening collegiate campaign.
The trip to Aurora is the second for the Bobcats and the meet is the third of the fall portion of its 2018-19 schedule. MSU will close out its fall slate when it travels to Tacoma, Wash., to participate in the Pat Lessor Harbottle Invitational on Oct. 15.
"Everybody is hitting the ball pretty well right now," Basye said. "We're doing some really good short-game practicing and we've worked on our three-foot putts and in. We're taking the five in the lineup, so I think each of them can put up a strong number and as a team we can post a good score. That should propel us into the Seattle tournament because that course will be similar to Langdon Farms."
Portland State serves as host of the Rose City Collegiate. The tournament field includes 14 universities, with the Big Sky Conference represented by PSU, Eastern Washington, Northern Colorado, Idaho State, Weber State and MSU. Monday's action on the par 72, 6,146-yard course begins with a shotgun start for the 65 golfers competing at 8 a.m. MST, followed on Tuesday with the final 18 holes starting at 8:30 a.m.
Live results will be provided throughout the tournament on golfstat.com.
