Bobcat Men Drop Heartbreaker to Viks

“Joaquin (Espinoza) played great and I thought we played well in doubles,” Burnham said. “Kasper (Parlklo) fought really well and was able to keep his intensity up.”
It couldn't have been any closer, but in the end Portland State pulled out a third set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles to capture a 4-3 win over Montana State on Friday afternoon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Portland State's (12-8, 6-4) Avery West scored the final three points of the match winning the tiebreaker 7-4 over Montana State's (4-11, 3-4) Rok Sitar to snap a three-all tie giving the Vikings the victory. West opened the first set with a 7-5 win, before Sitar returned the favor 7-5 in the second.
"Portland State wanted it a little bit more than we did," said MSU head coach Jared Burnham. "It came down to being comfortable with your game and making the right decisions."
The Bobcats opened the match taking the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and 3 on the ladder. The Vikings responded with victories at Nos. 1 and 4 singles to go ahead 2-1. MSU evened the match at No. 3 singles as Kasper Parlklo posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 decision over Tommy Edwards.
Montana State regained the lead 3-2 as Joaquin Espinoza cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Otto Holtari at the No. 5 spot. PSU's Gabe Souza tied the match moments later with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 6 singles to setup the final contest between West and Sitar.

The Bobcats will host Northern Colorado on Sunday at 2 p.m.
