MSU golf shot a 289 during its second set of 18 holes Monday to tie the school single-round record set at the 2016 Big Sky Championship

AURORA, Ore. – The Montana State women's golf team recorded one of its best sets of 18 holes in program history to wrap up the first day of the Rose City Collegiate on Monday, Sept. 25, at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

The Bobcats carded a second-round 1-over-par 289, tying its previous-best statistical round as a team set during the second round of the 2016 Big Sky Championship. The Bobcats jumped three spots in the team standings behind its second set of 18 holes after firing a 304 in the first round.

Junior Clare Dittemore led the way for the Bobcats during the afternoon portion of the Rose City Collegiate by firing a 1-under 71. Sophomore Delaney Elliott shot an even-par 72, while sophomores Kelly Hooper and Lilly Navarre figured into the school-record round with each carding a 1-over 73.

"The biggest thing is that we got four scores," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "We're always looking for a fourth one and it happened today. That's the difference. If you get a fourth score that's under 75, you're going to shoot a good number. That's incredible."

The Bobcats moved into sixth place (593) following Monday's action. Hooper (75-73) and Elliott (76-72) are tied for 20th overall in the individual standings at 148 strokes. Dittemore (78-71-149) is tied for 26th, senior Jaylee Tait (75-78-153) is tied for 44th and Navarre (81-73-154) rounds out Montana State's lineup in a tie for 48th.

Sophomore Coral Schulz, playing as an individual, put up her best 36 holes of her collegiate career in Aurora Monday. Schulz (145) fired a first-round 74, then completed a personal-best 1-under-par 71 to move up eight spots in the individual standings into a tie for seventh overall.

"I think a lot of it was the second time around you know where the pins are," Basye said."The course is in great condition so it's very scorable, we had favorable conditions and the girls took what they learned from the first round and put it towards the second. Obviously we do that quite a bit, but they were confident today in their games and drilled some putts. They kept it going and the wheels stayed on."

Portland State's Tara Finigan leads the individual portion of the meet currently sitting at 5-under 139. Cal Poly holds the team lead with a 574 and is followed by Portland State (580) and Nevada (583).

Montana State heads into its final round of its fall slate Tuesday in Aurora. The Bobcats begin the third round of the Rose City Collegiate with an 8:30 a.m. MT shotgun start at Langdon Farms Golf Club.

"The key for these girls is make the shots happen," Basye said. "If you hit a good drive, be happy about it then make your next shot a good shot. Congratulate yourself, give yourself some credit for hitting good shots. There's no time to waste. They've been working hard so now they need to go out and make it happen. They made it happen today. They need to have that confidence and I'm proud that they didn't give up and they fought until the last putt (today)."
