The fall slate comes to a close for Montana State women's golf when the Bobcats head to Aurora, Ore., for the Rose City Collegiate which starts on Monday, Sept. 25.
The Bobcats will be competing in a 14-team field at Langdon Farms Golf Club. The par 72, 6,057-yard course is set to host the teams for 36 holes with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. MT Monday with the final round of play beginning at approximately 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.
"This is a good golf course," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "It has some elevation to it, but it's got some shots that are a little bit more open assuming that it's in great condition."
Montana State heads into its third tournament of the fall after participating in the Battle at Old Works and Cougar Cup. Basye's squad improved from seventh to sixth as a team in back-to-back tournaments and will look to continue its ascension as the Bobcats conclude their final meet of the season.
"We're taking all six girls again (on this trip) and I think the key for us is going to be making putts." Basye said. "We've got to make those up and downs. Another highlight will be to stay away from large numbers. Those one or two holes that we might need to take a bogey if we have to instead of taking a double or triple because we can't recover easily from those.
"We need to stay consistent and when we get on a roll we need to keep it going."
Sophomore Kelly Hooper has led MSU through the first two tournaments of the year individually. She tied for third in the opening meet of the year then tied for 11th at the Cougar Cup, two of her best finishes of her career.
Utilizing six Bobcats in the last meet, senior Jaylee Tait made her first appearance of the 2017-18 season and completed a top-20 finish by shooting a 228 at the Cougar Cup. MSU's next best performance came from sophomore Lilly Navarre. Despite playing in just her second tournament of her collegiate tenure and not figuring into the Bobcat lineup, Navarre shot a second-round 2-under 70 at the Cougar Cup. That would have tied MSU's best single-round score a year ago.
The final meet of 2017 will serve as a barometer for Basye as the team gets prepped for its 2018 portion of its schedule.
"We've got to start off the shoot well early," Basye said. "If we can start off with pars, then we can get our momentum going. I'm looking forward to seeing us get back on the golf course and competing."
The Bobcats are scheduled to appear in seven tournaments in the spring. They'll start off the spring by participating in the Battle of the Rock (Feb. 12-13) and conclude the season with a trip to the Big Sky Golf Championship in Boulder City, Nev., that runs from April 20-22.
Live results for the Rose City Collegiate will be provided by tournament host Portland State and rounds can be followed along with at golfstatresults.com.
