Kelly Hooper shot even-par in the final round of action for MSU's top score of the day
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Bobcats improved 14 strokes in their final round of action in women's golf to finish seventh overall at the Grand Canyon Invitational on Sunday, March 12.
Montana State wrapped up play on the GCU Golf Course by shooting a team score of 300, topping its consecutive opening round scores of 314. MSU's 928 total was 26 strokes ahead of eighth-place Omaha and 13 strokes shy of sixth-place Georgetown.
Freshman Kelly Hooper had the best 18 holes of the day of any Bobcat, completing the third round with an even-par 72. She finished in 30th with a three-round 236.
Junior Jaylee Tait and freshman Delaney Elliott both shot final-round 75's to lead the Bobcats' lineup. Tait fired a 221 to place eighth overall and Elliott finished in a tie for 18th with her 229.
Senior Janelle Reali and freshman Coral Schulz put up their best 18 holes of the tournament Sunday. Reali carded a 78 to finish tied for 38th (242) and Schulz came into the clubhouse with an 84 and took 53rd (260).
"I'm happy with the team finish today," Bobcat head coach Brittany Basye said. "Jaylee and Delany were consistent and Kelly played great and trusted her game today.
"We will keep focusing on trusting our strokes and swings. We have to work out of bunkers and pitch shots around the green. We have a couple days to practice outside now (to get better) and then head to St. George."
The Bobcats travel to St. George, Utah, for their third tournament of the spring slate. Montana State will take part in the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational for three rounds of play over two days, beginning on Thursday, March 16.
