Montana State junior Jaylee Tait shot a 1-under in the first round to pace the Bobcats halfway through the Southern Utah hosted tournament
ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Junior Jaylee Tait shot under par to help pace the Montana State women's golf team through the first round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational Thursday, March 16, at Sunbrook Golf Course.
Tait shot a 1-under-par 71 to begin play Thursday. Her score is tied for sixth overall with three others. MSU is tied for eighth in the team standings with Utah Valley and Yale with a score of 310. South Dakota State shot a 282 as a team through one round to sit in first. The Jackrabbits are followed by Gonzaga (292) and Weber State (297).
"Jaylee had a great round and she is really playing well," Montana State head coach Brittany Basye said. "As a team, we need to play better and trust our putting strokes. We can't start doubting ourselves, we need to be on the offensive and not defensive out here.
"Each of these players have the talent to play really well and each of them have proven that. Tomorrow, we need to go prove that all five can play and play hard until the last putt drops on 18."
Freshman Delaney Elliott shot a 7-over 79 and is tied for 35th. Junior Janelle Reali and Freshamn Kelly Hooper both shot 8-over 80's and are tied at 40th individually. Freshman Coral Schulz fired an 82 and is tied for 53rd overall.
The Bobcats tee off at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Sunbrooke Golf Course. MSU is set to play with Wyoming and Yale for the final round of play in St. George before returning to Bozeman.
