Dylan Harvala's rally boosts MSU to win
It was like a light bulb going on.
Alex Flink earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles to snap a long winless streak in singles play for Montana State, and after Adrian Torrico also earned a straight-sets (6-2, 6-3) win Dylan Harvala provided the dramatics to lead Montana State to a 4-3 win over Portland State in a Big Sky match in Vancouver, Washington on Sunday.
"It was good to win a match when we didn't play our best," said MSU coach Jared Burnham. "The guys competed hard, and it I was happy with the singles wins. We need to continue to execute better."
Harvala provided the dramatics. After dropping the first set, he rallied from down 5-2 for a 7-5 second set win. He extended his consecutive game streak to eight by jumping out 3-0 with one service break in set three and cruised to a 6-3 win.
"Dylan got off to a real bad start and was down 5-2 in the second set," Burnham said. "But he started making shots and put pressure on his opponent and things just got going."
The entire day went down in come-from-behind fashion, beginning with doubles play. MSU earned the point after Portland State captured the No. 1 doubles match. Kasper Parlklo and Harvala teamed for the win at No. 3, then Kellen Bates and Torrico clinched the point.
The Bobcats play again on Tuesday at the University of Portland. Match time is 10 am.
