MSU posts stronger opening day to stay with the pack
Montana State Women's Golf finished in ninth place of 16 teams at the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State. The Bobcats faced 54 holes at Primm Valley Golf Club in Primm, Nev. and played for a combined score of 977 (319-326-332) to tie with North Dakota State on Tuesday. Oral Roberts, who MSU just faced at the Southern Utah Invitational on March 14, won the tournament with 934.
The overall medalist over the course of three rounds was Charlotte Jaengkit of Grand Canyon. Jaengkit finished with 223 (+7) including an impressive 69 in the second round.
Freshman Janelle Reali led MSU in both the first and third rounds for the overall top Bobcat spot, coming in a tie at 12th place. She careded 238 (77-81-80) for +22 overall. Kati Greear came in 20th, holding the lowest score for MSU in round two, for a combined 240 (79-78-83).
Paige Crawford ended in the middle of the group in 57th with 253 (83-85-85), followed by Haylee Folkvord in 62nd, carding 254 (88-82-84). Pamela Calderon Rojas rounded out all of MSU's participants with an 83rd place finish and a score of 265 (80-97-88).
"Much of our continued focus is really narrowing in on how we can improve," said head coach Brittany Basye. "Our overall play was more consistent at Primm but our overall play could be better and work on lowering those scores. It can be a tough transition from our indoor facility to outdoor and now we need to dial it in and improve our course management and competitive play."
The Bobcats will return to action on April 7, at the Cowgirl Classic, hosted by Wyoming. The two-day tournament will take place at Ak-Chin Southern Dune Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz.
