Montana State Women's Golf began the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in 20th place after the first round and rallied over the final two rounds to finish 17th overall at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. The Bobcats combined for a three-round score of 964 (326-319-319). New Mexico State took team champion honors after carding 887 (297-296-294) in Maricopa. Including Montana State, eight Big Sky Conference teams competed, giving a glimpse into their next and final tournament at the Big Sky Championship in just under two weeks.
Following a scorecard playoff, Annie Freeman of Santa Clara was the overall medalist finishing one-under with 215 (72-74-69).
For Montana State, Kati Greear played to the highest finish of the five Bobcat golfers. The sophomore tied for 62nd place with 237 (80-79-78), dropping a stroke each round. Just three spots behind her was freshman Janelle Reali, in 65th, carding 238 (80-81-77) overall, including a team-best 77 in the final round of 18. Paige Crawford finished in the middle of the pack in 82nd (244), followed by Haylee Folkvord in 89th (249) and Pamela Calderon Rojas in 92nd (250), rounding out MSU's roster.
"The last two rounds showed our determination out there," said head coach Brittany Basye. "Our putting, chipping and bunkers were better and we need to keep practicing, especially with the Big Sky tournament on the horizon. If we keep working hard, those 70's scores are going to be more consistent and that's what we're after."
The Big Sky Championship will take place April 20-22 at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.
