MSU Golf remains in eighth for final round at Falcon Crest
Montana State Golf closed out their second tournament of the 2013-14 year when they placed eighth at the Bronco Fall Invitational in Kuna, Idaho, hosted by Boise State. MSU amassed a three-round score of 933 (315-311-307) at Falcon Crest Golf Course, a par-72, 6,158-yard course. Santa Clara was the overall team champion in Kuna with 875 (291-287-297). (Results)
MSU's third round score of 307 marks a season-best thus far, improving by one stroke from last week's 308 at the Grizzly Invitational. The Bobcats' eighth place finish ranked them fourth among five Big Sky teams that were competing on Monday and Tuesday. Portland State, Weber State, Eastern Washington and Idaho State were also in attendance.
Four golfers shot in the 70s in the final round of play with Paige Crawford leading the charge once again. The senior tied for 17th, carding a 226 (76-76-74) to finish 10 over. MSU's next highest finisher was sophomore Kati Greear, the only other Bobcat who has played Falcon Crest prior to Monday. Greear came in 26th, bumping up two spots from the previous round. She finished 17-over with 233 (76-79-78).
Janelle Reali continues a consistent debut season when she improved five spots to come in 35th overall with 237 (83-77-77). Pamela Calderon Rojas, who picked up a hole-in-one in the second round of play, finished 42nd with 241 (82-79-80). Lauren Hausauer rounded out the scoring Bobcats placing 49th, carding 244 (81-85-78).
Competing as individuals were Haylee Folkvord and Bergen Buck. Folkvord came in 55th (248; 84-81-83) while Buck came in 57th (255; 89-82-84)
"We wanted our short game to be today's big focus and we are going to carry that over to next week," said head coach Brittany Basye. "Next week's tournament is on difficult course where our short game reallyneeds to be on. On a positive note, everyone on the team had at least one good round of nine so we'll need to capitlize on that success to move forward and improve."
The Bobcats return to action on Monday, Sept. 23 at the Cougar Cup, hosted by Washington State at Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
