MSU anxious for season to start
The Montana State women's golf team will take to the links for the first time in 2013 when the Bobcats head to Chandler, Ariz.., to compete in The Lumberjack at Ocotillo Golf Resort. The three day tournament begins Monday and will consist of 18 holes each day. Play will be held at the par 72, 6,308 yard golf course and will feature seven other Big Sky Conference squads, including NAU, Eastern Washington, Weber State, Southern Utah, North Dakota, Northern Colorado and Idaho State. Also competing will be Utah Valley and McNeese State.
The Ocotillo Golf Course has become a familiar sight for MSU; last season the Cats competed three times there, including the Big Sky Championship. The Bobcats have three tournaments scheduled at Ocotillo again this spring. “This will be a preview to our conference tourney, and even though they are adding length to the course we are excited to see how differently the course will play,” said head coach Brittany Basye. To go along with this first tournament and the Big Sky Championship, which is April 21-23, the other tournament at Ocotillo is The Wyoming Cowgirl Classic from April 8-10.
Competing for Montana State are Paige Crawford, Molly Dorans, Kati Greear, Kelly O'Brien and Pamela Calderon Rojas. “Pam and Kati have not seen the course while the other three have played it numerous times,” added Basye. Last year's Big Sky Championship at Ocotillo is where Crawford finished 15th, Dorans placed 18th and O'Brien in 32nd as the team brought home a 7th place finish.
During the fall season, the Bobcats competed in five events and are anxious to start the spring season. “We have been preparing for this tournament and course by practicing indoors since the first part of January and mentally preparing ourselves. The team is ready, it's time to go have some fun,” said Basye.
Results following each day of competition will be posted at msubobcats.com. For scoring updates and highlights throughout the season “like” MSU Golf on Facebook and follow the Bobcats on http://msubobcatgolf.blogspot.com/.
